We flew out right before Christmas with all three kids and spent the first part of our trip in the Missouri countryside. We stayed with my mom, traded traffic for stillness, and soaked up the quiet. One of the most meaningful days of my life happened that week: I had the honor of baptizing my mom and stepdad. My mom, once a devout atheist, has encountered Jesus in the most profound way over the past few years. Her request for me to baptize her has changed everything for me. What a gift.
And as if that moment wasn’t big enough, our 5-year-old son Leon looked at me from the side of the hot tub and said, “Dad, I want to be baptized too.” We’ve been talking about salvation and faith for a while now. He’s been asking the big questions. We had a sense it was coming. But we didn’t expect it then. I baptized my mom, my stepdad, and my son, three generations in one afternoon.
